Ferner Osten Ornamental Grasses Description

Ferner Osten Grass is a striking ornamental grass prized for its graceful, upright form and vibrant seasonal colour changes. This cultivar forms dense clumps of fine, green foliage, which develop reddish brown hues as autumn progresses. Its highlight comes in late summer when it produces tall, deep ruby red flower plumes that mature to silvery white, maintaining visual interest through winter. Its tall, arching shape and soft, feathery flowers bring a sense of movement and texture to garden beds, borders, or large containers.

Pruning Advice

Cutting Back: In late winter or early spring, cut back the old growth to around 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 inches) from the ground before new growth begins. This allows fresh shoots to emerge and helps maintain its vigour.

Dividing: To maintain its health and vigour, divide the plant every 3 to 4 years in early spring before new growth starts. This will prevent overcrowding and encourage better flowering. Dividing also helps propagate the plant.
