Silberfeder Maiden Ornamental Grasses Description

Silberfeder Maiden Grass is a tall, striking ornamental grass that brings elegance and structure to any garden. Known for its upright, fountain like form, it features broad green leaves with a delicate silver midrib that shimmers in sunlight. In late summer to autumn, it produces stunning, silvery white plumes that rise above the foliage, creating a dramatic display. These feathery plumes mature to a soft tan, remaining attractive well into winter, making this grass a year round feature in the garden.

Growing to a height of 1.8 to 2.4 metres (6 to 8 feet), including its plumes, and spreading up to 1.2 metres (4 feet), Silberfeder is ideal for adding vertical interest to borders, mixed plantings, or as a statement plant in the landscape.

Pruning Advice

When to Prune: Cut back the foliage in late winter to early spring before new growth begins. This ensures the plant remains tidy and encourages healthy growth for the new season.

How to Prune: Using sharp garden shears or secateurs, trim the foliage to around 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 inches) from the ground. Remove any dead or damaged material.

Leave the dried foliage and flower plumes intact through winter for structural interest and to provide a habitat for wildlife.
