Morning Light Maiden Ornamental Grasses Description

Morning Light Maiden Grass is a graceful, clump forming ornamental grass renowned for its fine textured foliage and elegant appearance. The slender green leaves are delicately edged with creamy white margins, creating a shimmering, silvery effect that catches the light beautifully, especially in the morning sun. In late summer to autumn, the plant produces airy, silvery pink flower plumes that rise above the foliage, gradually maturing to a soft tan, adding further interest.

This deciduous perennial grows in an upright, fountain like habit, reaching heights of 1.2 to 1.8 metres (4 to 6 feet), including the flower plumes, and a spread of 0.6 to 1 metre (2 to 3 feet). It adds movement, texture, and year round beauty to gardens, even in winter when its dried foliage and plumes provide structural interest.

Pruning Advice

When to Prune: Cut back in late winter to early spring, just before new growth begins.

How to Prune: Trim the foliage to about 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 inches) from the ground using sharp garden shears. Remove any dead material to tidy the clump and encourage healthy new growth.

Additional Tip: Leave the dried foliage and plumes intact through winter to provide structural interest and a habitat for wildlife.
