Moneymaker Lilyturf Ornamental Grasses Description

Moneymaker Lilyturf is a versatile, evergreen perennial that adds year round interest to gardens with its dense, arching, dark green foliage and seasonal bursts of vibrant flowers. This clump forming ornamental grass is an excellent choice for borders, ground cover, or shaded areas where it thrives in low light conditions.

In late summer to early autumn, Moneymaker Lilyturf produces upright spikes of deep purple flowers, which rise gracefully above the foliage. Following the flowers, small, dark purple black berries develop, adding further visual appeal to the plant in autumn. It grows to a height of around 40 to 50 cm (16 to 20 inches) and forms a similar spread, making it ideal for small gardens or as part of mixed planting schemes. Its compact size and dense growth habit allow it to be used effectively for edging, underplanting, or as ground cover in shady or woodland areas.

Pruning Advice

Pruning: In late winter or early spring, cut back old or damaged foliage to around 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) to allow fresh growth to emerge. This not only helps maintain a tidy appearance but also encourages healthy new shoots.

Watering: Water regularly during dry periods, especially when newly planted. Once established, Moneymaker Lilyturf is moderately drought tolerant.

Feeding: Apply a balanced, slow release fertiliser in spring to promote healthy growth and flowering.

Division: To keep the plant healthy and prevent overcrowding, divide clumps every 2 to 3 years in early spring or autumn.
