Malepartus Maiden Grass is a striking ornamental grass known for its dramatic height, graceful form, and seasonal beauty. It features arching, deep green leaves with a subtle silver midrib, which turn shades of bronze and purple in autumn. In late summer, it produces large, feathery plumes in a coppery red hue that gradually fade to silvery white, adding texture and movement to the garden. These plumes persist into winter, providing year round interest. Reaching up to 2 metres (6.5 feet) in height, it is an excellent choice for adding height and structure to mixed borders or as a standalone feature.

Pruning Advice

Cut back the old foliage to 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 inches) above the ground in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges.

Remove dead or damaged leaves as needed to maintain its tidy appearance.

Leave the plumes over winter to add seasonal interest and provide habitat for wildlife, cutting them back just before spring growth begins.
