Preorders
If your order includes products that are available immediately as well as items on pre-order, the available plants or items will be dispatched within 2–7 working days. Pre-order products will be dispatched separately as soon as they become available.
For orders that include pre-order bare root or root ball plants, you will be notified when these items are being dispatched. Typically, root balls are dispatched from mid to late October, while bare roots are dispatched from early to mid-November.
Please note that combined orders containing both in-stock and pre-order items will usually only be dispatched once all items are in stock. An exception is made for cell-grown plants, which are sent directly from our growers within 7 days.
Should you wish to split your order and receive the in-stock items immediately, please contact our customer service team on 0330 236 7330 for assistance. Please be aware that splitting your order may incur additional delivery charges.
Deliveries Requiring Pallets
Orders requiring pallet delivery typically include bulk orders and/or large hedging plants that cannot be shipped in standard boxes. Products eligible for pallet delivery are marked with a pallet icon on their listings.
- Minimum Spend for Free Delivery: Orders totalling £350 (including VAT) or more qualify for free delivery.
- Delivery Charge: For orders below £350, a delivery charge of £60 will apply.
- Scottish Highlands and AB/DD Postcodes: Pallet deliveries to these areas will incur an additional surcharge. For advice and specific cost details, please contact our sales team on 0330 236 7330.
The majority of our orders are dispatched using either Parcel Force’s 24-hour service or our local pallet delivery company, which operates as part of an international network. These deliveries are typically made within 24 hours, although some may take up to 48 hours.
Extra Tall Hedging Plants
For plants measuring 2.25m and above, please call our team for accurate delivery charges at the point of order. Tel. 0330 236 7330.
Vehicle Requirements
Pallet deliveries are conducted using an 18-tonne vehicle, which is comparable in size to a standard refuse lorry. If you require delivery via a smaller vehicle, please contact our sales team. While this can be arranged, please note that an additional surcharge will apply for the use of a smaller vehicle.
For further assistance, please contact our sales team on 0330 236 7330.
Deliveries Requiring Tall Boxes
Deliveries requiring Tall Boxes typically consist of bare root plants measuring 120cm or taller. Unlike potted plants of similar size, bare roots are lightweight and do not require pallet delivery. Products eligible for Tall Box delivery are identified by a box icon on their listings.
- Minimum Spend for Free Delivery: Orders totalling £100 (including VAT) or more qualify for free delivery.
- Delivery Charge: For orders below £100, a delivery fee of £7.99 will apply.
This delivery fee reflects the specialised packaging size and logistical requirements necessary to ship these Tall Boxes.

Extra Tall & Large Premium Plants
1. General Information
Extra tall plants (over 2.25m) or large, heavy plants categorised as Premium Products cannot be transported using standard pallet lorries. Instead, these products require delivery via a dedicated haulage lorry. The advantage of this service is that, in most cases, the lorry will carry only your order.
Due to the higher cost associated with dedicated haulage, delivery is quoted on a bespoke basis depending on the number and types of plants ordered. Products in this category are identified Premium Products.
To place an order or enquire about these items, please contact our team on 0330 236 7330.
2. Bulk Orders and Delivery Alternatives
A dedicated haulage lorry can accommodate a significant number of plants, making the cost per plant very economical for large orders. Additional benefits include:
- Discounts available for bulk purchases.
- For delivery addresses within the North West, we may be able to use our own lorry, offering a more economical delivery option.
- Collection from our nursery can be arranged by prior agreement.
We are happy to explore delivery options with you to ensure the most cost-effective solution tailored to your needs. Please contact us to discuss further.
3. Access Requirements
Important:
Deliveries of these products are made using large lorries. It is essential that the delivery address provides suitable access for vehicles of this size and type. If access is restricted or a large vehicle cannot reach your property, please contact our team on 0330 236 7330 to discuss bespoke delivery arrangements.
Additionally, due to the size and weight of these products, you will need lifting equipment available at the delivery location to transfer the plants from the lorry to the intended planting area.
For further assistance, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Root Types & Delivery Times
1. Bare Root Plants
In early November, it takes approximately two weeks to dispatch all pre-orders placed between July and late October. Once this initial period has passed, we aim to process and dispatch orders within 2–5 working days. However, during exceptionally busy periods, this timeframe may extend to 7–14 working days, excluding bank holidays.
For smaller quantities involving a variety of species rather than a single species, dispatch may take longer, as selective picking is only possible during quieter periods. Please keep this in mind when placing such orders.
Note: For tall bare root plants (1.2m and above), the minimum order value for free delivery differs from that of standard boxes. Please refer to the ‘Deliveries Requiring Tall Boxes’ section for further details.
2. Cell Grown Plants
Cell grown plants are kept in stock year-round and are typically dispatched within 3–7 working days of order processing. If we are unable to dispatch within 7 days, we will notify you.
There is a minimum order requirement of 12 units per species for all cell grown plants.
Please note: If your order includes cell grown plants alongside other products, the cell grown plants will arrive separately as they are dispatched directly from our growing site.
3. Pot Grown Plants
We maintain stock of most sizes of pot grown plants at our dispatch centre, allowing for dispatch within 2–5 working days for 95% of orders. However, in some cases, particularly during peak demand periods, we may need to source additional stock from other nurseries or partner growers.
- Standard Dispatch: Within 7 days.
- Peak Season Dispatch: Up to 21 days to allow time to bring plants into our dispatch centre.
If delivery is expected to take longer than 7 days, or beyond the standard 7–14 days during peak periods, we will contact you to provide an update and agree on a delivery date. If you wish to cancel your order at this stage, you may do so, and your payment will be refunded in full.
4. Root Ball Plants
Root ball plants are lifted directly from the fields to order, ensuring they remain fresh and have a higher success rate when planted. For this reason, we recommend ordering well in advance of when the plants are required.
- Peak Season: Plants are lifted twice weekly, with delivery typically within 3–7 days. During the busiest periods, delivery may extend to 7–14 days.
- Off-Peak Season: Plants are lifted once weekly, with delivery within 7 working days.
If stock is unavailable or delivery is delayed, we will notify you as soon as your order is received.
For any queries, please contact our team on 0330 236 7330.
Signature-Free Delivery
Signature-Free Deliveries
The short answer is no, we do not require a signature for any of our deliveries. All deliveries are sent on a ‘No Signature Required’ basis.
To ensure a smooth delivery process, please provide clear instructions in the Delivery Instructions section at checkout regarding where your order should be left. However, these instructions must be reasonable; for example, we cannot expect carriers to leave items "in the shed at the bottom of the garden."
Deliveries of Pallets and Extra Tall Plants
For orders delivered on a pallet or via a large articulated lorry (e.g., extra tall or large plants), the following points are important to note:
- Presence at delivery: For orders being delivered on a pallet or via a large articulated lorry in the case of extra tall/large plants, we do not require a signature for delivery, but in general people prefer to be at home to oversee the delivery. This is sometimes advisable as pallets can be difficult to manoeuvre so the driver may need to be shown where the pallet can be safely left. (If you have a a gravel drive you may need to unpack the pallet at the gate). Extra tall plants will also require access for a large articulated lorry and have lifting equipment and an operator available to move plants into the planting location.
- If you cannot be present: If you cannot be there to receive the delivery, please provide specific instructions as to where the delivery should ideally be left, taking into account it will need to be accessible for the lorry, with plenty of space for the driver to easily unload and deposit the delivery. We can then pass on your instructions to the pallet company. This can all be discussed when we liaise with you to agree a convenient date for delivery.Delivery Arrangements and Potential Delays
We offer the scheduling of specific delivery dates as a complimentary service to assist our customers. While we strive to meet these dates, please note:
- We cannot be held responsible for delays caused by unforeseen circumstances.
- We strongly advise against arranging for gardeners or contractors to wait for the delivery, as delays may occur. Compensation will not be provided for missed delivery dates arising from issues beyond our control.

Storing Plants Before Planting
If you are not immediately ready to plant, you can store your plants for a short period following these recommendations:
Bare Root Plants
- Bare root plants can be stored in a sheltered area, such as a shed, for a few days to a week. Ensure they are protected from drying winds by opening the package and keeping the roots moist.
- If you need to store them for longer, they must be "heeled in." This involves temporarily planting the roots in moist soil, where they can remain (with regular watering) until early spring, ideally no later than the end of March or very early April. However, for the best results, they should be permanently planted as soon as possible while still dormant.
Root Ball Plants
- Root ball plants must be kept moist and planted as quickly as possible after delivery. This is particularly important for evergreen plants, as they are more sensitive to transplanting stress compared to deciduous varieties.
Cell Grown Plants
- Cell grown plants can be stored for up to a week before planting. During this time, ensure they are well watered and kept in a sheltered location.
Pot Grown Plants
- Pot grown plants can remain in their pots for a few weeks, provided they are kept well-watered but not waterlogged.
For optimal plant health and successful establishment, aim to plant your stock as soon as conditions allow.
