Escallonia Iveyi (white) Hedge Plants Description

Escallonia Iveyi is an evergreen shrub known for its glossy, dark green foliage and stunning white, trumpet-shaped flowers that bloom from summer to early autumn. This attractive plant is ideal for creating dense, year-round hedges, offering both beauty and privacy. Escallonia Iveyi is well-suited for coastal gardens due to its salt tolerance and thrives in well-drained soil with full sun or partial shade. It is relatively fast-growing and requires minimal maintenance, making it an excellent choice for a low-maintenance, visually appealing hedge. Regular pruning after flowering helps maintain its shape and encourages vigorous growth.

Pruning Advice

General hedge trimming should be done immediately after flowering. Escallonia will also benefit from a harder prune in early Spring (April-May).

Further Information

Planting distances are largely a matter of preference. For bare root plants, spacing them at 3 plants per metre is sufficient, 5 plants is optimal, and 7 plants in a double staggered row will result in a denser hedge more quickly. Generally, smaller plants should be planted at a higher density. For cell-grown plants, spacing at 4 plants per metre in a single row or ideally 6 plants per metre in a staggered row is recommended.
