Transparent Moor Ornamental Grasses Description
Transparent Moor Grass is a graceful and airy ornamental grass that adds height, texture, and movement to the garden. It forms a clump of slender green leaves, which arch gently, creating an elegant mound. In late summer, the plant produces delicate, feathery flower plumes that emerge as translucent, almost silvery, and gradually mature to soft golden brown hues. These translucent plumes create a light, wispy effect, bringing an ethereal quality to the garden, especially when swaying in the breeze. Standing at a height of around 1.5 metres (5 feet), this grass works wonderfully in borders, naturalistic planting schemes, or alongside water features like ponds or streams. It thrives in moist, well drained soil and performs well in both full sun and partial shade, making it a versatile addition to many garden styles.
Pruning Advice
When to Prune: Prune Transparent Moor Grass in late winter or early spring, before the new growth begins to emerge.
How to Prune: Use sharp secateurs or garden shears to cut the plant back to around 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 inches) above the ground. This helps to remove any dead or damaged material and encourages healthy new growth. Be careful not to cut into the crown of the plant.
Additional Tips:
The dried flower heads can be left standing over winter to provide winter interest and shelter for wildlife.
If the plant becomes too large or congested, divide it every 3 to 4 years in early spring to maintain its shape and vigour.
Adding a light mulch in spring can help to retain moisture and suppress weeds around the base of the plant.
