Hebe Mrs Winder Hedge Plants Description

Hebe Mrs Winder Hedge Plants are a refined and attractive choice for creating vibrant and manageable hedges. Known for their appealing evergreen foliage and enduring flowers, these plants add structure and seasonal interest to garden landscapes.

Hebe Mrs Winder has a moderate growth rate, typically growing 20-30cm (8-12 inches) per year. It can reach a height of 1-1.5 metres (3-5 feet) and a similar width, making it suitable for medium-sized hedges or as a feature in mixed borders.

Foliage: This hebe variety is distinguished by its dense, evergreen foliage. The leaves are small, oval, and glossy, with a rich green colour that sometimes takes on a reddish tint in cooler weather. The evergreen nature ensures year-round interest and provides a lush backdrop for other garden plants.

Flowers: In summer, Hebe Mrs Winder produces clusters of tubular flowers that vary in colour from soft pink to white. These flowers are attractive to pollinators such as bees and butterflies, enhancing the garden ecological value.

Shape: The shrub naturally forms a compact, rounded shape, which is ideal for creating a neat, tidy hedge. It requires minimal pruning to maintain its shape, but occasional trimming can help encourage a fuller, denser growth.

Bark: The plant has smooth, woody stems that add texture and structure to the hedge.

Hebe Mrs Winder thrives in well-drained soil and prefers full sun to partial shade. It is relatively hardy and can tolerate a range of UK climates, including coastal conditions. Regular watering during dry periods helps to maintain its health and appearance.

Pruning Advice

Prune Hebe Mrs Winder in late spring or early summer, after the flowering period, to maintain its shape and remove any dead or damaged growth. Light, regular pruning encourages a bushier, more compact hedge and ensures continued health and vitality.

Hebe Mrs Winder is an excellent choice for those seeking a stylish, low-maintenance hedge plant that offers attractive foliage and seasonal colour. Its adaptable nature and year-round appeal make it a versatile addition to various garden designs.

Further Information

Planting distances are largely a matter of preference. For bare root plants, spacing them at 3 plants per metre is sufficient, 5 plants is optimal, and 7 plants in a double staggered row will result in a denser hedge more quickly. Generally, smaller plants should be planted at a higher density. For cell-grown plants, spacing at 4 plants per metre in a single row or ideally 6 plants per metre in a staggered row is recommended.
