Mexican Feather Grass, also known as Nassella tenuissima, is a compact and graceful ornamental grass, cherished for its fine, thread like foliage and airy flower heads. This delicate grass creates a soft, flowing effect in gardens, with its feathery flower spikes swaying elegantly in the breeze. The flowers appear in late spring to early summer, starting green before transitioning to golden hues, which persist through the autumn, providing months of visual interest.

Growing to a height of approximately 30 to 60 cm (1 to 2 feet), Mexican Feather Grass is perfect for adding texture, movement, and softness to garden borders, gravel gardens, rockeries, or containers. The grass is semi evergreen, maintaining some foliage in milder winters, though it may die back in colder conditions.

Pruning Advice

Avoid Hard Pruning: Do not cut back the grass completely, as it does not respond well to hard pruning. Simply remove spent stems and tidy the plant.

Monitor for Self Seeding: In favourable conditions, Mexican Feather Grass may self seed. If you wish to limit this, remove the flower heads before the seeds mature.
