Little Zebra Maiden Grass is a striking ornamental grass known for its compact size and attractive variegated foliage. Its leaves are a rich green with bold, horizontal yellow stripes, creating a zebra like pattern that adds texture and contrast to any garden. In late summer, it produces airy, burgundy tinged flower plumes that mature to silvery hues, creating a dramatic visual effect. The flowers persist through autumn and winter, offering seasonal interest long after the foliage has faded.

Pruning Advice

Autumn/Winter: In colder climates, the foliage can be left standing through the winter to provide structure and interest in the garden. The flower plumes will fade to silvery tones, offering winter texture.

Spring: In early spring, before new growth begins, cut back the dead foliage to ground level to make room for fresh shoots. This encourages healthy growth and maintains its tidy appearance. Be sure to wear gloves when pruning, as the leaves can be sharp.

Division: Every 2 to 3 years, divide the plant to maintain its vigour and shape, especially if it starts to become too large or sparse in the centre. Divide in early spring before new growth starts.
