The key distinction between Cotoneaster lacteus and Cotoneaster franchetii is the arching branches and tendency to trail downwards, making it commonly seen supported by a wall or fence.

Pruning Advice

Cotoneaster lacteus hedges should be trimmed twice a year: once in early June and again in late September. Pruning at the correct time is essential to avoid removing new growth. After pruning, it is beneficial to mulch and feed the plants. A general-purpose fertiliser or a specialised high-potassium fertiliser, such as one for roses, is recommended.
